Our reading club began in November 2002 and takes place in the Library on Thursday lunchtimes.
It is for Year 7 pupils who enjoy reading and reviewing books, acting out dramas, corresponding with authors via websites, comparing book and film versions and anything else the pupils themselves are keen to do during our Reading Club time.
Our plans for the future meetings include having author visits, inviting teachers to speak about their favourite books when they were at school, cinema and theatre visits - every week we think of something else we would love to do!!
If you would like to be part of our Reading Club please see Mrs Simpkin in the library.
READING CLUB UPDATE FOR WEBSITE (March 2003)
What an exciting time we are having in the Reading Club! Since November we have:-
·
Read ‘Danny the Champion of the World’ and ‘Bumface’.
·
Acted out scenes from ‘Beowolf’.
·
Visited the cinema to see ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’
and compared with the book.
·
Visited The Grand Theatre to see a production of ‘The Hobbit’ and
compared it with the book.
·
Had the poet Michael Murphy visit us for World Book Day.
·
Mrs Evans and Mr Pinder have both spoken to our club about their
favourite books when they were at Secondary School.
·
We are currently involved in Askew’s Torchlight Competition 2003.
·
Our next book to group read is Animal Farm in celebration of George
Orwell’s centenary.
