An interview with Highfield High’s new
Headteacher – Mr Ian Evans
Mr Evans was appointed Headteacher of Highfield High School in May 2002. He took up his new post on Monday September 2nd 2002 at the start of the Autumn term. Obviously it will take a little time for parents, students and staff to get to know him. To help that process along, Highfield Online managed to interview him during his first week in post so that we all could get to know him a little better.

Highfield Online question:
Can you tell us something about your yourself?
Mr Evans's reply:
I try to be an honest open person, I am also competitive and determined. I am really interested in making sure children I work with have the best possible chance to become successful in life. I like working with people and I am committed to quality education.
Highfield Online Question:
What did you do before joining Highfield as Headteacher?
Mr Evans's reply:
Before coming to Highfield I spent 5 years at Hodgson High School as Deputy Headteacher. I was Hodgson's Acting Head for a period earlier this year.
Before that I was a Senior Teacher in a very large school in Shrewsbury.
I've also been Head of Science earlier in my career.
Highfield Online Question:
The most difficult question of all now. Can you give us some of your impressions of Highfield and where you feel that you can lead the School?
Mr Evans's reply:
I have found the pupils to be confident, friendly, and helpful. They have a lot of potential. Staff have been very helpful and are clearly committed to giving their best for the pupils. Everyone works together. I want to keep what is good about Highfield and make certain everyone has the opportunity to achieve their best.
Highfield Online Question:
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I don't seem to have too much spare time but when I get the chance I try to balance family and sport. I make time for my family, my wife and our three girls aged 6, 13, and 15. We like going to the cinema, swimming and walking.
I have a passion for tennis and I am a member of my local club. We play against other teams in the Fylde. I also play squash for enjoyment.
Highfield Online question:
If you hadn’t been a teacher which other careers do you think you might have enjoyed?
Mr
Evans's reply:
I was interested in medicine and electrical engineering! I have always liked Science and these careers all had a Science aspect to them. However, I was inspired by a teacher at my University and that is what made me want to teach. The decision to go into teaching was definitely the right one.

Mr Evans's reply:
I have enjoyed it immensely.
