HOMEWORK
Homework
is an important part of school work as it builds on what is learned during the
school day.
Every pupil receives a homework timetable. Homework will be set according to the published timetable for each year group.
Students should record all homework set in their Homework Diary [Years 7-9]/Student Planner [Years 10-11].
Students
are expected to learn how to manage their time in order to meet deadlines
therefore, not leaving everything until the last minute and being overloaded on
any particular night.
Parents are sent a copy of the homework timetable to help them work out what homework their son/daughter should be receiving and when.
The
timetable might not be followed rigidly as it could occasionally be more
appropriate for staff to set homework on a different night, depending on what
has been taught, what point has been reached in the course of study and the
nature of the task set. For
example, R.E. might be set once every other week and Art homework is often set
in project form.
We
ask parents to encourage their son/daughter to plan the timing of their homework
carefully. As a rough guide, pupils
in Years 7-9 should work for approximately ¾ to 1¾ hours per night and students in Years 10 and 11 for 1½ to 2
hours per night.
The
Library is open from 3.10pm to 4.20pm every week from Monday to Thursday,
enabling students to use the facilities available.
Highfield
High School operates a 2-week timetable, therefore certain subjects are taught
on alternate weeks.
Parents are asked to support their son/daughter by monitoring the Homework Diary/Planner, signing it at the end of each week and contacting the House Tutor if there are any problems.
