Hello again
First picture: Front row left to right:
Sandra Fogden, Jeanne Dobson, Dorothy Hampson, Doreen Hayes, Kay (Crowther, I
think). Back row left to right: Wendy Rushton, Elizabeth ?, Ann Taylor,
Patricia Cooper, Sandra Jackson
Second picture: I think this one was taken
earlier than the others, perhaps when we first were made prefects. The
others were taken just before we left in 1959.
Front row l to r: Doreen
Hayes, Judith Harrington, Ann Taylor, Jo Binns (I think)
Second row l to r: Sandra
Jackson, Brenda Maxwell (I think) Elizabeth Aldred (me), Jeanne Dobson, girl
slightly back, unknown, girl in front of her in light skirt, unknown.
Third row l to r: Patricia
Cooper, Joan ?, Unknown
Fourth row l to r: Dorothy
Hampson, Sandra Fogden
Doreen Hayes was an accomplished pianist.
She played for our assembly on the mornings Mrs. Penny was away. I
believe she went on to the Royal Music Academy in Manchester where she did
very well. I expect you are already aware of this.
I was sorry to learn of Miss Bloomer's death.
She was a wonderful person. Some of the pupils found her formidable and
I suppose she was. She had very high standards and expected all of us to
live up to them.
I'm at a loss to understand why Miss Stott isn't
in the photo of the teachers. I imagine I took the picture during lunch
so perhaps she was out of the school at the time.
I hope you find this interesting and I'm not
duplicating anything you already have.
After I left Highfield at the age of 15 I went to
Blackpool Tech and completed a 2 year secretarial course. I married in
1965 and we came to Canada in 1966. I could tell you why and what
happened if you or your students would be interested.
All the best
Dear Peter
The pictures of the girls were taken in the centre
of the girls' quad. The room you can see behind with the windows high up
was the art room. Highfield Road was beyond those classrooms. On the
picture of the teachers, the door you can see on the left I think was the
science lab. The long windows looked into the domestic science kitchen, Mrs.
Bibby's domain. The door on the right led to Miss Bloomer's study, the school
secretary's office and the music room was on the right directly across from
Mrs. Bibby's kitchen. The girls I couldn't name may have been: top to
bottom Valerie Hargreaves, Carole Lord and Anne Palmer but I'm only guessing.
I hope they see themselves and get in touch.
Regards
Elizabeth Wright

Clifford
left Highfield in 1959 but remembers his
days here well. He recently visited us to take a look at the
changes that have taken place over the past 43 years.
Clifford's form room had changed - but not that much - the original
blackboard could still be seen behind the new roller board.

This
was where the football team was posted for Saturday's match.

Clifford
was a prefect and his duty point was at these doors - he enjoyed this
job as it was the only place where the girls and boys met - remember
that in those days Highfield consisted of
two schools - one for girls and one for boys!

If
you are an ex-pupil and would like to visit
the school, either individually or in a
group, contact Mr Westhorpe at the following address: pwest@highfieldschool.com
