  What is bullying?

Bullying can mean many different things. These are some ways children and young people have described bullying:

Question

"What should I do if I am being bullied?

Answer

If you are being bullied you must tell someone.

You have the right to come to school each day and get on with your work without

other people making you unhappy.  Bullies sometimes name call, they sometimes

push and shove, they occasionally hit and they always try to make you unhappy.

If you are being bullied and do nothing about it the problem will not go away and

will most probably get worse.

Question

"What should I do?"

Answer

Tell someone you trust – this ideally will be your House Tutor

or a teacher you know well.   It may be your mum or dad, your older sister or

brother or even your grandma  or  granddad.   It may be a close

friend but remember, an adult is much more likely to be able to give you good advice.

Remember your House Tutor is the teacher who probably knows you best

and this person will want to help. You can get advice from many other sources,

including the library and the internet ( I’ve included some links below ).

If you do not feel you can speak to anyone in school or at home,  there is a national organisation

called CHILDLINE who offer telephone support and advice.

Remember the following 4 points

1    Bullies won’t simply go away – never ignore the problem.

2    Highfield is full of teachers who will help you – these include

your House Tutor as well as your Head of House and  many others.

3    Mr Evans will not tolerate bullies at Highfield High School – if your

problem is not dealt will and you continue to be bullied – let him know.

4    Parents, friends and staff, particularly your House Tutor, will help you in every way possible.

Highfield High School’s Educational Social Worker – Mrs Perkin visits school

several times per week.

Her role is to work with the teaching staff to help solve problems students may be facing.

Normally your Head of House would inform Mrs Perkin if there is a problem that we

feel she may be able to help with.

However, Mrs Perkin can be contacted directly and may be able to give general advice about

bullying.

If you do contact Mrs Perkin, it would be courteous to inform your Head of House or House Tutor as

It is likely that she will contact them about the problem.
